SKU: hb020

$80.00

This is a stunning Museum Quality hastalis (Mako) tooth. The Isurus hastalis Mako was a direct ancestor of the modern Great White Shark. It measures  2-1/2″ long and 1-3/4″ wide. The enamel and root are in great condition. No tooth is perfect but this is in the top 10% of all hastalis teeth that I find. Includes certificate of authenticity.

The Megalodon was the largest and most powerful predator ever to have lived in the ocean. This prehistoric shark could have grown to about 60 feet (18 meters) in length and had a bite force that far exceeded that of any known animal, including the Tyrannosaurus rex. The Megalodon’s diet likely consisted of whales, dolphins, seals, and other large marine mammals. Its teeth, could reach over 7 inches (18 cm) in length, The Megalodon is thought to have gone extinct around 3.6 million years ago, possibly due to changes in the marine environment and competition with other predators. I find the teeth that I sell SCUBA diving along the East Coast of the US in 40 to over 100 feet of water.
